Observational Physical Oceanography introduces undergraduate students to the principles of ocean observations through a combination of lectures, fieldwork, and engineering design. Students build and deploy their own oceanographic instruments, analyze real-world datasets, and learn how observations are used to understand physical ocean processes.

Marine Robotics is a new graduate course focused on autonomous systems for ocean observation and exploration. Students will gain experience with autonomous underwater and surface vehicles, mission planning, environmental sensing, navigation, and adaptive autonomy while exploring how robotics can expand our ability to observe and understand the ocean.
Hacking for the Oceans is a graduate-level innovation course modeled after Stanford's Hacking for Defense. Interdisciplinary student teams work directly with sponsors from government, industry, and nonprofit organizations to address real operational challenges in the ocean domain. Through customer discovery, iterative design, and rapid prototyping, teams develop and demonstrate a hardware or software prototype that addresses the sponsor's needs.
